Mr. Richardson, 87, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha, after battling bladder cancer since his diagnosis in March 2010. He was with his family when God called him home to heaven.
Lyle D. "Bud" Richardson was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Elgin, to Thomas W. and Florence (DeWitz) Richardson. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1942. Bud worked at the United States Post Office in Elgin for seven years and then began working at the Elgin State Bank in 1949. He retired from there as vice president in 1989 after 40 years of bank work.
Bud was also a life-time member of Peace United Methodist Church in Elgin, and he was very active as treasurer and council member for many years.
Bud married Ruby Fred at the Elgin Methodist Church in 1946. They enjoyed a devoted marriage for 66 years. Through all of Bud’s illness, Ruby was uppermost in his thoughts. Bud and Ruby had two sons, Lon and Steve. Bud loved most sports and athletics. He played basketball, baseball, golf and was on a bowling team for many years. He especially took pride in watching his sons participate in high school sports. He also enjoyed commiserating with Lon and Steve about the successes and failures of Minnesota sports teams. Bud treasured his hometown of Elgin and was very knowledgeable about its history and the individuals who helped it grow and change. Bud and Ruby’s health prompted a move to Meadow Lakes Senior Living in Rochester in September 2010.
Bud is survived by his wife, Ruby; two sons, Lon Richardson and Steve (Darlene) Richardson; four grandchildren, Lalena, Benji, Jed and Sara; six great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. He is also survived by his brother, Glenn (Gaynel) Richardson; sisters, Norma Deming, Tootie (Ralph) Firzlaff; Ruth Ann Dessner; and many nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
