Lyle Douglas Ondler — Rochester
Lyle Douglas Ondler, 90, of Rochester, passed away Jan. 10, 2013, at Golden Living Center West in Rochester, Minn., where he had resided the past year. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Christ United Methodist Church, 400 5th Ave., SW with visitation beginning one hour before the services. Burial with military honors will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Lyle was a graduate of Rochester High School and served in the Army during World War II as a heavy truck driver. He was a painter by trade and a lifetime member of the Painters Union, as well as a member of the Eagles and American Legion. He married Shirley Streiff on Dec. 28, 1946, at the Little Brown Church in Iowa, and she preceded him in death Oct. 6, 2002. He enjoyed spending time with his children hunting and fishing, and his pride and joy was going on an annual fishing trip with all his family and friends. He was happiest when they were all around. Lyle had a very dry sense of humor and he loved to tease.
Survivors include two sons: Douglas Ondler (Nancy), of Oronoco and Rodney Ondler, of Cody, Wy.; and two daughters, Barbara Cunningham (Kevin Funk), of Mazzeppa, and Sharon Day (Michael), of Rochester; and seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, two brothers, and two sisters.
