Marcedes 'Ceda' Hamer — Stewartville

The Mass of Christian Burial for Marcedes "Ceda" Hamer, 90, of Stewartville, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville, with the Rev. John Wilmot officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hamer died of natural causes on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at the Stewartville Care Center where she had resided since 2009.

Marcedes Rita Thoma was born Feb. 23, 1925. in Pocahontas County, Iowa, to Herbert and Nettie (Victora) Thoma. She grew up on the family farm, attended rural school and helped with the family farm. On Sept. 2, 1945, she was united in marriage to Howard T. Hamer in Clare, Iowa. They farmed in Iowa and Minnesota, moving to Minnesota permanently in 1956, where Mr. Hamer worked as a farm hand for various farms and started a portable feed grinding business. In 1966, they purchased a home west of Stewartville, where they lived for many years and raised their family. Mr. Hamer died on Oct. 4, 1977. Ceda moved into Stewartville in 1983.

Ceda was a longtime member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and a member of several church guilds. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, crocheting, baking and visiting with family and friends. She attended her children's many activities while they were growing up. Ceda enjoyed helping others out if she could. She was proud to participate in Alzheimer's Research at Mayo Clinic, knowing it may help others.

Ceda is survived by her children, Larry (Linda) of LeMars, Iowa; Robert and Roger (Diane), both of Salem, Mo., and Roxann (Tom) Neumann of Plainview; 12 grandchildren, Kristin (Chris) Mason, Brian Hamer, Shelly Hamer Ostermeyer, Jason (Jodi) Hamer, Robin Hamer Bell, Darla, Dean and Dustin Hamer, Jessica (Damian) Krier, Victoria (Mike) Biehn, Vincent (Pam) Neumann and Amanda Rabehl; 22 great-grandchildren, Dylan and Josee Hamer, Kaden, Lawson, Logan and Tylen Ostermeyer, Kyle and Isaac Bell, Nancy England, Harley Merry, Cooper, Conner, Caleb Mason, Kylie and Khloe Hamer, Ethan Neumann, Amelia Krier, Jackson Neumann, Destinee, Mackenzie, and Courtney Krier and Kylee Krueger; three sisters, Lorraine Riesdorph of Sioux City, Iowa; Arlene (Robert) Meseck of Storm Lake, Iowa; and Yvonne (Bonnie) Ressler of Fort Dodge, Iowa; brother, Gerald (Mary) Thoma of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Sandra Thoma of Gowrie, Iowa.

Ceda was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, her parents, three grandsons, Jared, Edward and Adam Neumann, a sister, Freda Parrish, three brothers, Herbert Jr., Ronald and Eugene Thoma, daughter-in-law, Ruth Hamer, sister-in-law, LuAnne Thoma and three brothers-in-law, Kenny Parrish, Lyle Ressler and Roy Riesdorph.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb, 27, at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning.
