Marcella A. (Sally) Buck - West Concord

ROCHESTER — Marcella (Sally) Alvina Buck, age 79, formerly of West Concord, moved to Kasson in 2005. She was a retired longtime homemaker and died peacefully on Saturday, May 22, 2010, surrounded by family, at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester, where she had been a resident for the past three years.

Marcella (Sally) Alvina Buck was born on November 5, 1930, in Preston to Grant and Julia Briggs. She grew up and attended country school in Spring Valley. She graduated from the 8th grade. Following school she worked as a waitress and in Physical Therapy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She met Duane Buck of Pine Island, and they were married on April 21, 1950, in Spring Valley.

The couple lived in Alabama for two years while Duane was in the Army. They moved back to Minnesota and started farming in the West Concord area. They raised six children: Richard of West Concord, Debbie (Kent) Ruport of Kasson, Judy (Roger) Quimby of West Concord, Dorothy (Carvel) Munnikhuysen of Dodge Center, Jim of West Concord and Bob (Jill) Buck of Kasson.

In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Shanks of Pine Island; and two brothers, Julian (Marian) Briggs of Spring Valley and Roger (Kathy) Briggs of Racine. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and five brothers, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, and two daughters-in-law.

Marcella enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing cards, going to the casino, fishing in northern Minnesota, and spending time with her family and friends.

The Funeral will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church (301 Highland St.) in West Concord at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, with Pastor Chris Brekke officiating. Burial will be in the Old Concord Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Dibble Funeral Home (213 W. Main St.) in Kasson, and one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
