Margaret Mary "Marge" Kasten — Menomonie, Wis.
Margaret Mary "Marge" Kasten, 90, of Menomonie, Wis., formerly of Elmwood, Wis., died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Red Cedar in Menomonie.
Marge was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Baraboo, Wis., and grew up in Wausau, Wis. She was the daughter of Frank Barrett and Alma T. (Dresen) Conway. Marge graduated from Wausau High School in 1939. She then went to college on a scholarship at Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wis., and graduated as a Registered Dietitian. Marge worked for a couple of years at St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago, Ill., before marrying William G. "Doc" Kasten on Nov. 9, 1946, in Sauk City, Wis. In 1955, they settled in Elmwood, Wis., where Doc opened his dental practice and they raised their family. Marge went to work as a dietary consultant in 1967, and worked at the Spring Valley (Wisconsin) Care Center, the Dunn County Health Care Center, and the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home and retired in 1987. In December of 1999, Marge and Doc moved to Spring Valley, Wis., where they lived until 2008, and then moved to River Falls Assisted Living. In January of 2013, Marge and Doc moved to the Comforts of Home in Menomonie.
Marge served on the Elmwood Public Library Board for many years and she was a member of Sacred Heart of Elmwood's Altar Society. Marge and Doc enjoyed going to Las Vegas throughout the years. She enjoyed playing bridge, flower gardens, reading, cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Marge is survived by her husband of 67 years, Doc of Menomonie; her children, Kathleen Schwartz of Rochester, and Michael (Ruth) of Menomonie; four grandchildren, Peter (Shari) Schwartz and Nicholas (Mary) Schwartz, and Jeanne (Christopher) Lindsay and Julie (Damian) Kastbauer; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother; Francis Conway.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Menomonie. Rev Thomas Krieg will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery – Farm Hill, rural Elmwood.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
