Margaret Matters Iverson — Rochester
Margaret Matters Iverson, 97, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Arbor Terrace inRochester.
She was born Sept. 17, 1915, in Neosho, Mo., toWilliam T. and Corrie Page Matters.Margaret was a graduate of the University of Missouri and earned a MEd fromWayne State University. She was a full-time mother and homemaker, while also teaching in elementary and high schools for 25 years in Michigan andFlorida. Margaret was married in 1947 to Halvor Iverson, Jr., who died in 2009.
She is survived by her sister, Alice M. Pegram of DeLand, Fla.; four sons, Christian (Carol) of Wrightsville, Pa., Mark (Renata) of Rochester, William (Marilyn) of Summerville, S.C., and Halvor III (Helena) of Concord, Mass.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Margaret served overseas in the Red Cross during and after World War II. Amember of Calvary Episcopal Church in Rochester, she was an active Presbyterianmost of her life, and was generous in support of wide-ranging civil rights andcommunity causes.
Music was an important part of her life. She played piano forSunday school, birthdays and many other celebrations. She will be remembered forher joyful spirit, her abiding love of family, and for welcoming each day as anopportunity to do good unto others.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in the Chapel at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth inRochester. Burial willfollow in DeLand, Fla.
