Margaret "Peg" Milostan Swenson - Rochester
ROCHESTER — Margaret Mary Milostan (Peg) Swenson, 84, died Wednesday, April 7th, 2010, at the home of her daughter, Kim L. Bird, and son-in-law, Jerry A. Bird, in Cadillac, Michigan.
Mrs. Swenson was born at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester on June 16th, 1925, to Leo and Ora Milostan. On August 6th, 1944, she was married to Curtis G. Swenson, a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 95th Bomb Group of WWII. After 60 years of marriage he died in July of 2004.
Mrs. Swenson worked in hematology for the Mayo Clinic for a short time before marriage. She then worked in various hospitals throughout the country while traveling with her husband before he was discharged in 1945.
Mrs. Swenson enjoyed house boating on the Mississippi River, sewing, gardening, and many trips to visit her daughter, son-in-law, and two granddaughters in Idaho and Montana. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, as well as a member of the Highland Homemakers Club and trip planner for the group for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Kim L. Bird, of Cadillac, Mich.; grandchildren, Lynsay E. Pierson (Trevor), of Belgrade, Mont., and Tracey L. Bird, of Slate Creek, Idaho. Also surviving are her 4 great grandchildren: Alicia (Ali) , Noel, and twins Landon and Julia Pierson. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents Leo and Ora (Ward), and her brother, George L. Milostan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Mrs. Swenson's name to Hospice of Michigan/Cadillac, 400 Perry St., Big Rapids, MI 49307.
