Marguerite Haugen — Red Wing
Marguerite Haugen passed away peacefully Monday, July 8, 2013.
Born Sept. 14, 1926, in Red Wing, to Jack and Dorothy (Evans) Spriggle of Bay City, Wis. She attended grade school in Bay City and graduated from Red Wing Central High in 1944. Worked in Minneapolis for a short time, and on March 2, 1945, married Gordon Haugen in Duluth. She lived in Monroe, La., until Gordon was discharged from the Army Air Corps. She then moved back to Bay City until they moved to Red Wing in 1953, where they raised their five children. She was a stay-at-home mom until the youngest child went to school at which time she went to work at Haven Homes and then worked at Munson Office Products, retiring early because of health reasons at which time she became an Avon sales representative.
She volunteered at many places, including Red Wing Health Center, Goodhue County Food Shelf and Sunnyside School. She was also an active member of Red Wing First United Methodist Church where she gave of her time and talents for over 60 years. She actively supported her children and grandchildren's activities. She was an avid baseball fan, starting with the Bay City Bombers at the age of 12. A loyal Red Wing Aces and Minnesota Twins fan until the very end. She was the first female member of the Aces Board of Directors. She was also an avid Timberwolves and Green Bay Packers fan. She enjoyed baking, flower gardening, crocheting and embroidering. At the time of her death, she was still reading three newspapers a day.
She is survived by her children, Wayne (Sally) Haugen, Switzerland; Paige (Jack) Lunn, Lonsdale; Jack (Mary) Haugen, Prior Lake; Jean (Mickey) Ayer, Eden Prairie; and Terri (Ron) Cobian, Hastings; special nieces, Cindy George (Darnell Wallin) and Becca Johnson; grandchildren, Patrick (Flower) Haugen, Kyle (Carrie) Haugen, Andy (Deann) Haugen, Kimberly (Chris) Houston, Erin Lunn, Mallery (Mark) Dosdall, Ryan (Kate) Cobian, Stefan Voigt, and Rachel Cobian; great-grandchildren, Kendra, Mauricia, Carlito and Sidney; and two sisters, Maxine Katz and Lois George; as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon and her parents.
The funeral will be held Friday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Red Wing, with pastors Greg Strunk and Hugh Stevenson officiating.
Visitation will be in the Friendship Room at First United Methodist Church from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, and one hour prior to the service.
