Marie D. 'Tina' Holets -- Rochester

The funeral for Marie D. "Tina" Holets will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joseph Fogal officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

Marie had a long struggle living with Parkinson's disease. She was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer. She passed away peacefully at home with family around her.

She was born in Protivin, Iowa, in 1941, to Edwin and Rose Zahasky. Marie graduated from Protivin High School in 1959.

Marie moved to Rochester after graduation and worked at Saint Marys Hospital. In 1964, she married Joseph Holets at St. Pius Catholic Church. They made their home in Rochester where they raised their daughter, Laurie. They were married for 52 years. Marie worked at Saint Marys until retirement.

Marie is survived by her husband, Joseph Holets; daughter, Laurie, (Robert) Frey of Savage, Minn., and siblings, Merlin (Karen) Zahasky, LuAnn (Allen) Borlaug, and Bernie (Steve) Beecher. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Rose Zahasky; and sister, Patty (Otto) Glieber.

Marie enjoyed spending time shopping, going to lunch and movies with her daughter, Laurie, and watching Vikings and Twins games with her husband, Joe. She enjoyed getting together with her sisters and large extended family by playing cards, attending Oscar parties, fish frys and just being around family and friends.
