Marie Rothgarn - Lake City
ROCHESTER — Marie Rothgarn, 66, of Lake City, passed away Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Marie was born July 9, 1944, in Lake City to John & Bernadette (Benda) Michels. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962. Marie attended Beautician School in Rochester and worked as a beautician in Lake City. She married Don "Butch" Rothgarn July 17, 1965, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City.
She worked at the Harbor House and the Pepin Inn until she and her husband bought the Port of Call in Lake City in 1982. They operated the Port of Call together for 22 years until Butch passed away in September of 2004. She continued operating the Port of Call until retiring in October 2010.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City. Marie was a longtime member of the Lake City Country Club and the Monday Night Bowling League. She loved to cook and knit, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Blake (Amy) of Lake City, and Brent (Nicole) of Lake City; five grandchildren, Brennan and Marah, Lexie, Faith, and Brady; a brother, Howard (Betty) Michels of Aitkin, Minn.; niece, Diane (Bill) Siewert of Frontenac; and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don "Butch"; and a sister, Alice Schad.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City, with Father Robert Meyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church on Friday.
