Marilyn Tischer — Rochester

Marilyn Tischer, 86, of Rochester, passed away Friday (June 24, 2016) surrounded by her loving family at Maple Manor nursing home, where she had been a resident for the last three years.

Marilyn Joyce Olson was born May 7, 1930, in Cloquet, Minn., the youngest of five children born to Hugo and Flossy (Green) Olson. She grew up in rural Mahtowa, Minn., and graduated from Barnum High School. She married Lawrence Tischer on June 27, 1953, in Mahtowa.

She enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, traveling and camping trips (they visited every Minnesota State Park). She loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After her children were grown, she worked for 16 years at Mayo Clinic.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years and four children: Bruce (Pam Reiser) Tischer of St. Louis Park, Minn., Rick (Pam) Tischer of Onalaska, Wis., Gail (Steve) DeBoer and Larry Tischer of Rochester; 10 grandchildren (Jennifer, Jeremy, Jason, Brooke, Joe, Emily, Nicole, Michelle, Nate and Becca); and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers (Vernon and Merle), and two sisters (Vivian and Dorothy).

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Salem Lutheran Church, 2702 First St., Mahtowa, MN 55707. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Chris Harper will officiate. Burial will be at Sandy Lake Cemetery.
