Marjorie Ann Gunderson — Rochester

The funeral Mass for Marjorie Ann Gunderson will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at St Pius X Catholic Church, with the Rev. Charles Collins officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour before the service Friday at the church.

Mrs. Gunderson, 87, a longtime resident of Rochester, passed away Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at Willows and Waters Senior Living in Rochester.

Marjorie was born July 9, 1929, in Carroll County, Iowa, to John W. and Philomena E. (Balk) Hofbauer. When she arrived in Rochester, she worked at the Princess Café where she met her husband. On Oct. 14, 1947, she married Harold Gunderson in Pine Island. In the early 1970s, she worked as a lifeguard and taught special needs children to swim at the YMCA. Later in life, she worked for various homebuilders.

Survivors include her husband, Harold; her children, Sandra Gunderson, Gary Gunderson, Rick (Pam) Gunderson, Heidi (Jerry) Holthe, Kim (Richard) Ellis, Lisa (Ted) Mason all of Rochester, Mark (Dennise) Gunderson of Pine Island, and David (Denise) Gunderson of Byron; her grandchildren, Amber, Alicia, Jon, Jodi, Jesse, Jamie, Cory, Jeremy, Jessica, Chad, Colten, Logan, Daniel, Amanda, Angeleena, Joshua, Jacob, Jonathon; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Sharon, Ruth, Imogene, Connie; and her brothers, Donald, Stanley, Steven, Dale and Royden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Philomena; daughter, Linda Harget; daughter-in-law, Kathy Gunderson; and sisters, Shirley Rose, Verniel, and Verla.

Marjorie was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She loved gardening, fishing, boating, playing cards, and crocheting.
