Marvin L. Klassen — Wabasha

Marvin L. Klassen, 86, of Wabasha, formerly of Plainview, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, at his home. He had been in poor health for the past several years.

He was born March 3, 1928, in Highland Township of Wabasha County, the son of Clarence and Amelia (Peters) Klassen. He attended the Smithfield Country School. Marvin married Belvadine Reck on Sept. 26, 1959, at St. Felix Catholic Church. The couple lived on the family farm where he farmed with his father. In 1962, they moved into Plainview, and he continued farming with his father. After his father's death in 1967, Marvin began working at Lakeside Packing Company in Plainview. He worked for the company for seven years. Because of health problems, he became totally disabled in 1976. The couple moved to Wabasha in 1978.

He was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Belvadine Klassen, Wabasha; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ottum, El Paso, Texas, Mary Lane, Oronoco, Violet Ann (James) Gilbert, Wabasha and Jean (Steve) Sula, Winona; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Laverne Klassen, brothers-in-law, Wilmer Reck, Lawrence Huneke, Joseph Ottum and Jack Lane, and sisters-in-law, Louie Huneke and Mary Ann Reck.

A memorial Mass will be offered Thursday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha, with the Rev. Monsignor Thomas Cook officiating. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery.

Urn bearer will be Stan Gordon.

Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
