Mary Jean Roberts — Cedar Falls, Iowa

Mary Jean Roberts, 91, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and mother of Susan (Curt) Dodge, placed her hand in God's on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island.

Mary Jean was born Feb. 7, 1922, to Howard and Verna (Petersen) Smith in Waterloo, Iowa. She graduated from East High School in Waterloo in 1941. On Sept. 22, 1945, she married George H. Roberts. He preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1989. She married Floyd D. Hays on July 10, 1993. He also preceded her in death. Mary Jean worked at Viking Pump in Cedar Falls from July 1966 until her retirement on April 1, 1985.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Curt) Dodge; grandson, Michael (Danika) Stagemeyer; great-grandson, Troy Stagemeyer; step-grandchildren, Beth (Kevin) Tostenson, and Michael Dodge; and step-great-grandson, Kevin Tostenson Jr., all of Rochester; a sister, Dorothy Guldner, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a brother, Jack (Barbara) Smith, of Sigourney, Iowa; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Floyd; sisters, Maxine Duschen and Peggy Madole; brother-in-laws, James Duschen, Wendell Madole and Dr. John Guldner.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Waterloo.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, July 15, at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo, IA 50701, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

The family would like to thank from the bottom of our hearts, the staff at Pine Haven Care Center. The attention and love Mary Jean received during her stay was above and beyond the call of duty and as she said many times, "they were also her family."
