Maurice R. Quam - Kenyon

KENYON — Maurice R. Quam, 88, of Kenyon, died Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Kenyon Sunset Home.

He was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Cherry Grove Township, Minnesota, the son of John and Martha (Davidson) Quam. Maurice attended country school in Cherry Grove Township, and at the young age of sixteen he purchased a truck and started Quam trucking, hauling milk, livestock and grain. He later purchased a bus in 1952 and ran Quam Bus Company, eventually having a total of six buses in Kenyon, later selling out and retiring in 1981.

Maurice enjoyed going to his cabin up north and traveling with his wife, Ila.

He is survived by his wife, Ila Quam of Faribault; children, Marilyn (Allen) Larson of Marine on St. Croix, Mike (Linda) Quam of Elk River, and Lance (Sue) Quam of Goodhue. Maurice is also survived by five grandchildren, four step grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, five step great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mabel (Al) Auman of Rochester.

His parents and five brothers preceded him in death.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon, on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and at First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Luther Mathsen officiating. Interment will be in the Dale Lutheran Church Cemetery.
