Melvin Walker — Rochester
Melvin Lee Walker, 68, of Rochester, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015.
Melvin was born July 22, 1947, in Rochester, to Herbert and Joyce (Kjella) Walker. He was a 1965 graduate of John Marshall High School. Melvin was a veteran, proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army. On Dec. 17, 1966, he married Katherine Blatti in Rochester.
Melvin was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Rochester. He was a Good Samaritan, always willing to help others. Melvin was known for his quirky sense of humor. He enjoyed traveling and casino games, but he especially loved spending time and making memories with his family.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Katherine; children, Rich (Bonnie) Walker of Columbia Heights, Minn., Laurie (Jason) Holland of Stewartville, and Gordy (Brandi Mason) Walker of Mankato; five grandchildren, Carter, Caitlin, Carmen, Carson Holland and Lauren Walker. Melvin is also survived by his mother, Joyce Kjella, of Minneapolis; his siblings, Doris Walker of Ft. Stockton, Texas, and Donald Walker, Mary Kjella and David Kjella, all of Minneapolis; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather and an infant brother.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 3343 East Circle Drive NE, Rochester. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, and one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Pat Thomas will officiate, with burial at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
