Menton Grove — Kasson
Menton Grove, 91, of rural Kasson, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, from natural causes, at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island, where he had been a resident the past two years.
He was born April 25, 1921, in Cherry Grove Township, rural Kenyon, to Martin and Bertha Grove. He attended local schools through the eighth grade and then began farming with his father.
Menton married his wife, Marilyn (McCready) on June 15, 1952, at United Methodist Church in Kasson. They resided in rural Kasson where they had four children. He farmed there 55 years.
Menton served as Canisteo Township supervisor for 21 years. He was an active member of St.John's Lutheran Church in Kasson, having served on the pastoral call and building committees, and also working at the lutefisk dinners. Menton enjoyed farming, going to auctions, visiting with his neighbors, and most of all spending time with his family.
Menton is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn of Kasson; daughter, Marcia (Steve) Simonson of Rochester; son, Marvin Grove of Kasson; and son-in-law, Steve Cloutier; four grandchildren, Dan, Adam and Mike Simonson and Keith Cloutier; two great-grandchildren, Kyle and Austin; half sister, Ruth (Richard) Lorentz of Plymouth; and numerous nephews and nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Arla Swee, Berdella Swee, Burnette Beckstrom and Ruth Walker; two children, son Mark and daughter Marie Cloutier.
A special thanks is given to the dedicated workers at Pine Haven Care Center for the care he received there as a resident, and also to nephew Larry Swee for his daily visits to Menton.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kasson, and also an hour before the service. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Randy Fett officiating. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
