Mildred 'Mickie' Onken — Brazil, Ind.

Mildred "Mickie" Freida Onken, 72, of Brazil, Ind., died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 29, 1939, in Worthington, as the daughter of Edward and Helen Karsten Wasnick. She married Robert Onken Sept. 18, 1959. He preceded her in death in 1981. She had been employed at Walmart for 17 years.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Brazil and the local Red Hat Society. She had also worked as a volunteer at the local Food Pantry in Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert Onken.

She is survived by one son, Michael (Anita) Onken; daughters, Patricia Evans and Kristal Renae Lagro; grandchildren, Justin, Logan and Steven Onken, Michael Lagro and Andrew Shaw; great-grandson, Gabriel Brossart; sisters, Alberta (Joe) Schreiber and Eva-Lou (Len) Schreiber; best friend, Sherry Stewart; and other extended family.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, March 5, at Moore Funeral Home, 142 N. Washington St., Brazil IN 47834. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., with Rev. Gary Scroggins officiating. Cremation will follow.
