Lucinda Stockwell, 79, a resident of Rochester, passed away on July 29, 2020 at Season’s Hospice House after a courageous battle with Ovarian Cancer.
Lucinda was born on May 13, 1941, in Worcester, MA, to Fred and Nancy Jane (Crawford) Waite. After growing up in Dudley, MA, Lucinda graduated from the Northfield School for Girls, a college preparatory school in Northfield, MA. She attended Brown University and graduated from Clark University where she met and married David Stockwell. Lucinda and David were married for 16 years and then amicably parted ways but remained close friends up to the time of Lucinda’s passing.
While David worked for IBM, they moved several places, and Lucinda raised their two children, Sam and Dave. Lucinda began working as a math teacher and then transitioned to a successful career at H&R Block as District Manager, Regional Manager, and when she retired, as Vice President of Franchising. During her career she traveled and lived in many different locations in the US.
Lucinda enjoyed traveling the world and seeing new places. She spent her retirement going on cruises and visiting various countries with her special friend, Dan Schroeder. Together they had explored more than 30 countries. In addition to traveling, they spent winters in Florida and made many happy memories.
Lucinda was an avid volunteer, a mentor to many, and member of the Calvary Episcopal Church. Her daily mantra was “I have always said I am the luckiest person in the world.” All who knew her heard this saying, which she truly believed. Lucinda found something to be positive about every day of her life.
Lucinda is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her special friend Dan Schroeder, of Rochester; her daughter Samantha (Don) Sagdalen of Rochester; her son, David R. (Rebecca) Stockwell of Fitchburg, WI; grandchildren Steven (Desirae) Sagdalen, Danielle (Brandon) Sanford, Noah Stockwell, Elliot Stockwell; great grandchildren Weston Sagdalen, Wyatt Sagdalen, Teagan Sanford, and Frederick Sanford; former husband David (Barbara) Stockwell; sisters, Nancy (Tom) Waite Cuddeback of Stamford CT, and Sara (Peter) Costa of Wellesley, MA; and niece Lucy Costa of Wellesley, MA.
No services are planned at this time. Memorials in Lucinda’s honor are preferred to be made to 125 Live, a great passion of Lucinda’s.
