Frances Walkes

Frances Juanita Walkes, 91, of Plainview, passed away on Monday morning, January 11, 2021 at her home in Plainview. She was born March 6, 1929 in Hammond, NE to Karl and Viola (Barker) Linke. Frances grew up in Nebraska attending Pony Lake Country School and graduated from Rock County High School. Frances went on to attend Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa for two years.

After college Frances worked at the First EUB Church in Rochester, where she met the love of her life, Raymond Walkes. They were married on August 29, 1952 in Bassett, NE. The Walkes first farmed east of Rochester and then moved to a farm south of Plainview in 1960. They moved into Plainview in 1992. Frances was also employed at the Plainview Community Schools for many years as a secretary in the Superintendent’s Office.

Frances is survived by her three daughters, Teresa (Bob) Batzel of Rochester, MN, Judy (Rich) Walania of Eagle Lake, MN, and LaDonna (Gary) Olson of Apple Valley, MN; four sons, David (Barbara) Walkes, Roger (Judy) Walkes, Jim (Becky) Walkes, and Robert (Connie) Walkes all of Plainview, MN; 15 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Vonnie Linke of Lincoln, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond, two brothers, and two sisters.

A walk-through visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15, at Evangel United Methodist Church, 2645 North Broadway in Rochester with Pastor Mark Rader and Pastor Deborah Walkes officiating. Burial will follow the service at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Masks and social distancing are required for all services.

In Lieu of flowers memorials can be given to: UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), Ronald McDonald House, or Channel One – Food Bank.
