Olive Aleda (Hildestad) Haugen — Lanesboro
Olive Aleda (Hildestad) Haugen, 90, formerly of Lanesboro, went home to heaven on Monday, July 6, 2015. She resided at Park Lane Assisted Living in Preston since April 2009.
Olive was born Sept. 1, 1924, in Peterson, to Oscar and Anna (Moger) Hildestad. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in the Diamond Creek area between Whalan and Peterson. On May 29, 1943, she married Arthur Justin Haugen at Whalan Lutheran Church. Arthur preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1993. They farmed for many years until they became owners and operators of the White Front Cafe in Lanesboro from 1968 to 1985. Most of Olive's life was spent cooking and baking for family, friends and customers. She continued waitressing after the sale of the cafe. She also worked at the Lanesboro Visitor Center and the Lanesboro History Center until her retirement in 2008.
She was a lifelong member of the Whalan Lutheran Church and a member of the Lanesboro American Legion Auxiliary.
Olive is survived by three sons, Lynn (Jan) of Lanesboro, James (Lori) of Lanesboro, and Brian (Laura) of Zumbrota; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, O. Arlan (Elnora) Hildestad of Rochester; and sisters, Eileen Eggert of Rushford, Marlys (Richard) Pianin of Irvine, Calif., and Carol (Richard) Nelson of Osakis. Also, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; daughter, Karen; son, Gary; sisters, Harriet Chayka and Lucille Johanson, a grandson, Kevin Haugen; and her parents, Oscar and Anna.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 10, at Whalan Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Patricia Hinkie officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Memorials are preferred to Whalan Lutheran Church or Alzheimer's Association.
