Orlen E. Nolte -- Stewartville

The memorial service for Orlen E. Nolte, 90, of rural Stewartville, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville, with the Rev. Kim Cassidy officiating. Mr. Nolte died on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center, where he had been a resident for the past two years.

Orlen Edgar Nolte was born on March 21, 1924, in North Germany Township, Wadena County, to Henry and Louise (Ploenzke) Nolte. He grew up on the family farm in rural Sebeka and attended country school. He farmed with his family before moving to the Stewartville area, where he was employed as a farm laborer and as a seasonal worker at Reed-Murdock Canning Co. in Rochester. Orlen was married on July 25, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville to Lois A. Bufton. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Stewartville before moving to Pleasant Grove Township. In 1968, they moved to their current home, where they raised their kids and have continued to make their home. Orlen was employed at Libby, Libby and McNeil and then Seneca Foods in Rochester for 45 years until his retirement in 1993. He also worked part time for many years on the Paul and Ruth Gerber farm and helped other area farmers in the spring and fall. Lois was a homemaker. Orlen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville. He was an avid reader, enjoyed woodworking and following the Minnesota Twins. He enjoyed time spent with friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Orlen is survived by his wife, Lois; two daughters and two sons, Karen (Terry) Goldsmith, of Racine, Jeff (Karen), of Stewartville, Brian (Theresa), of Racine, and Kim (John) Guettinger, of Eau Claire, Wis.; four grandchildren, Mendela (Erik) Paulsen, Jessica (Scott) Morgan, Jared (Jeshila Erickson) Nolte and McKenna Guettinger; four great-grandchildren, McKayla, Carter and Taylor; three sisters and one brother, Cecelia Schultz, of New York Mills, Ted (Ernestine) Nolte, of Wadena, Gloria Triebwasser, of Monticello, and Onie (Curtis) Goldhammer, of Mitchell; and sister-in-law, Ruth Nolte, of Hammond, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Henry.

A time of visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday morning. A private family burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville will take place at a later date.
