Orville D. Quimby — West Concord

Orville D. Quimby, 97, of West Concord, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Kenyon Sunset Home.

Orville was born Sept. 29, 1915, in Concord Township, the son of Ross and Matie (Martin) Quimby. He attended District 97 Fair Point country school and then West Concord High School graduating in 1933. While in school, he worked with his Uncle John. In 1934, Orville's father died and he began helping run the family farm. He married Dorothy Bennerotte on Aug. 28, 1937. The couple sharecropped area farms before purchasing his parent's farm. Orville worked for Moorman and Super Sweet Feed as a salesman. In 1958, Orville and his son bought a portable feed mill. In the mid 60's he worked as a machinist in Claremont for the Von Ruden's, and later for IBM in Rochester from which he retired. Dorothy died in 1989. He then married Adeline Engen on June 1, 1991, and the couple moved into West Concord.

In his younger years, Orville enjoyed fishing and later in life he was on a bowling league in West Concord. Orville was a Christian man and served on the church council at Zion Lutheran and later at Hegre Lutheran Church. He loved farming and his tractors. There wasn't another place Orville enjoyed more than being on the farm. Orville loved the outdoors. Adeline and Orville enjoyed dancing and playing cards. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. He was a kind and patient man that would have done anything for anyone. Orville also had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Adeline Quimby of Kenyon; his children, Royce (and Carol) Quimby of Minneapolis, Barb (and Steve) Kleeberger of Bemidji, and Herb Quimby of Kenyon; six grandchildren, Steven Quimby of Minneapolis, Dawn (and Kenny) Benson of Owatonna, Shari (and Jon) Stroschein of Owatonna, Angel (and Steve) Worley of Minneapolis, Felecia (and Scott) Krech of Matthews, N.C., and Kellie Kleeberger of Frisco, Colo.; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Donovan (and Dolores) Quimby of West Concord; a sister-in-law, Bess Quimby of Pine Island; and and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy; a brother, Daryl Quimby; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Arthur Spreiter.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, West Concord, Sunday March 17, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service in the church.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 18, at 2 p.m. at Hegre Lutheran Church in Kenyon, with The Reverend Chris Brekke officiating. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord Township.

Memorials are preferred to Alzheimer's Association or Hegre Lutheran Church.
