Phyllis Ann (Brokken) Hogue — Rochester

Phyllis Ann (Brokken) Hogue, 90, of Rochester, formerly of Harmony, passed away the morning of June 10, 2013, at Madonna Towers in Rochester.

She was born July 29, 1922, in Harmony, to T. Sabin and Gladys (Garrett) Brokken. She graduated from Harmony High School in 1940 and went on to earn degrees in medical technology and radiology from Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis. She worked for Dr. H.H. Moffat in Shelby, Ohio, where she met her future husband, Harry Hogue. They were married on Nov. 27, 1943, at St. Mary's Church in Miami, Fla., where they lived for a short time before Harry was deployed to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Phyllis returned to Harmony and was joined by Harry after his discharge from the Navy. They made a happy home in Harmony where they raised six children. Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a longtime member of Nativity Catholic Church in Harmony. Never one to turn away someone in need, she was beloved by all of her many friends who she would greet with a beautiful smile on her daily walks to town. She will always be remembered for her positive attitude, unending hospitality and grace-filled loving.

She is survived by six children, John Hogue of Rochester, Janet (Wayne) Bartz of Rochester, Andrew (Dr. Terri) Hogue of Golden, Colo., Thomas Hogue of Salem, Ore., Cecelia Meyers of Rochester, and Robert (Melanie) Hogue of Superior, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Peter Bartz, Blake Hogue, Rev. Danielle Bartz, Trevor (Katie) Meyers, Ross Meyers, Garratt Hogue, Robert Hogue, Madelyn Hogue and Amelia Hogue; 12 nieces and nephews and a sister, Genore Schaff of Fremont, Calif.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hogue and a brother, Thomas Brokken.

There will be a visitation Wednesday, June 12, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony, and a Mass of Christian Burial at Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church in Harmony on Thursday June 13, at 2 p.m. followed by a brief reception.
