Ralph Calvin Rucker — Apache Junction, Ariz.

Ralph Calvin Rucker, 87, of Apache Junction, Ariz., and formerly of Rochester, died surrounded by family members Saturday, July 18, in Apache Junction after a short time fighting leukemia.

Ralph was born in Oronoco Sept. 3, 1927, to Louis and Amelia Rucker. He married Genevieve (Gen) Miller on Jan. 10, 1946, in Plainview. They moved to Rochester, where Ralph worked at the Kahler Grand Hotel as a bellman for 42 years. They had eight children who gave them 24 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.

Ralph was a funny, hard-working man who was always there to help others. The light and joy in his life was spending time with his family. He also liked to play pool, fish and play cards. At retirement, Ralph and Genevieve moved to Apache Junction. They loved the warm weather and lack of snow.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Genevieve; his eight children, Roger (Marilyn), Linda (Bill) McBurney, Rosemerry (John) Pagenhart, Jacquelyn (Douglas) Swift, Bruce (Wendie), Duane (Patty), Catherine (Dale) Schulz and Constance (Robert) Moulthrop; 24 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; his brother, Louis (Marleen); and sister, Beverly (Dale) Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester, 869 Seventh Ave. SE. Condolences may be sent to his wife at 1363 N. Plaza Drive, #32, Apache Junction, AZ, 85120.
