Rev. Dr. Dale Lund - Fremont, Neb.

Rev. Dr. L. Dale Lund, 93, died Saturday, July 14, 2012, in Fremont, Neb.

Dr. Lund was born Feb. 22, 1919, on the family farm near Wakefield, Neb. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1936. In 1938, he received an A.A. degree from Luther Junior College in Wahoo, Neb. In 1940, Dr. Lund received a B.A. degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. In 1945, he received the Master of Divinity degree from Augustana Seminary in Rock Island, Ill., and was ordained as a Lutheran pastor in the Augustana Synod.

Dr. Lund was pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Attleboro, Mass., from 1945 to 1947. Dale married Ruth E. Carlson in Attleboro on Aug. 3, 1946. In 1947, Dr. Lund became Chaplain and Associate Professor of Religion at Upsala College in East Orange, N.J. In 1958 at the age of 39, Dr. Lund accepted the call to the Presidency of Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan. In 1965, he became Dean of the Faculty of the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, Ill. In 1968, Dr. Lund was called as President of Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Neb.. He served Midland until 1981. He then worked for Planned Giving Services, a fundraising ministry for institutions and agencies of the Lutheran Church in the Nebraska Synod.

Dr. Lund is survived by his wife, Ruth of Fremont; son, Philip (Susan) Lund of Mapleton, Ill.; daughter, Mary (George) Bayrd of Rochester; son, Kent (Elizabeth) Lund of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Christine Lund of Longmont, Colo.; brother, Richard (Bonnie) Lund of Wayne, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at Sinai Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2.

The family will greet friends Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sinai Lutheran Church, followed by a Vesper Service at 7 p.m.

The family prefers memorials to Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan., Sinai Lutheran Church, or the Dr. L. Dale and Ruth Lund Scholarship fund at Midland University.
