Rev. Glenn Armstrong — Rochester

The Rev. Glenn Arthur Armstrong, D.D., 81, of Venice, Fla., passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015. He was born in Galveston, Ind., on April 3, 1934, to Herbert and Eva Williams. He was a graduate of Galveston High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Detroit Bible College and his Doctorate of Divinity from Denver Baptist Bible College. He married Frances McElmurry on June 30, 1956.

Glenn was a pastor for 55 years at churches in Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota and Hawaii. He loved pastoring and caring for people at Calvary Baptist Church for 21 years in Rochester, where he also helped start a Chinese church. He was involved 23 times in church building programs. Glenn recently taught at First Baptist Church in Venice, Fla.

Glenn was a beloved pastor and enjoyed teaching from God's Word. He wrote a daily devotional called Momentum and monthly articles called Crossviews. He enjoyed research, writing and helping others.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Frances; and their three children, the Rev. Jay Armstrong of Kihei, Hawaii; Lisa Nielsen, of Sarasota, Fla.; and Jill Smith, of Rochester. He also is survived by seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. His beloved dog, Kaya, will miss him along with his family.

A viewing will be held at Ranfranz-Vine Funeral Home in Rochester on Friday, Sept. 11, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will take place at Calvary Baptist Church in Rochester on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. Rev. Jay Armstrong and the Rev. Dwight LaPine will officiate the celebration of Glenn's life.
