Richard D. Placek - Austin

Richard David Placek, 90, of Austin, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie.

Richard was born March 18, 1921, in Decorah, Iowa. His parents were George and Emma (Krob) Placek. Richard served in the Navy during World War II. He married his high school sweetheart, Lois Barneck, on Oct. 5, 1942. Richard worked as a mechanic at Hormel Foods for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; brother, Kenneth (Doreen) Placek, Castaic, Calif.; sister, Virginia Prange, Carlsbad, Calif.; daughters, Patricia (Roy) Taylor, Flora Vista, N.M., Pamela (Arnold) Schwamm, Austin, and Amy Placek, Blooming Prairie; daughter-in-law, Karen Placek; grandchildren, Jason Libersky, Michelle (Tim) Davis, Derek Placek, Allison (Tarin) Sellers, Kimberly Placek, Melissa Placek, Alan Adams and Alex Enright; great-grandchildren, Michael Davis, Jacob Davis, Rayanna Placek Gabrielle Brossoit, Shelby Brossoit and Mason Brossoit.

He was preceded in death by his sons, David Placek and James Placek.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Prairie Manor Nursing Home Chapel in Blooming Prairie.
