Robert E. 'Bob' Hilfers - Rochester

The memorial service for Robert E. "Bob" Hilfers will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, with Pastor Lou Haase officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Mr. Hilfers, 74, of Rochester, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at his residence. 

Bob was born Sept. 26, 1938, in Wilmont, to Henry and Emma (Ennenga) Hilfers. He married Alma Bruns at Avoca, Minn., in 1960. The couple has lived in Rochester since 1965. Mr. Hilfers worked as a large equipment mechanic for the Minnesota Department of Transportation for 39 years. 

He was the president of the SE Minnesota AFL-CIO for many years. He enjoyed restoring cars, attending car shows, camping, fishing, traveling and steam tractors.

He is survived by his wife; three children, Cheryl (Danny) Quimby of Elgin, Russell (Cathy) Hilfers of Rochester and David (Teri) Hilfers of Byron; 10 grandchildren, Alicia (Joe) Minnis, Heather, Shelli and Nick Quimby, Katrina Olson, Matthew (Megan) Hilfers, Elizabeth Hilfers, Andrew Hilfers and Emily Hilfers and Joe McShan; two great-grandchildren, Logan Brakke and Rayah Schulz; three sisters, Marilyn (Lou) Haase of Skokie, Ill., Janiece (Jim) Claire of Rochester and Nancy Peyton of Fulda; and two brothers, James (Sharon) Hilfers of Virginia, Minn., and Edward (Linda) Hilfers of St. Cloud, Fla. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A lunch will be served immediately following the service at the funeral home.
