Robert E. Richmond -- Minneapolis
Robert "Bob" Richmond passed into eternity at 91 years of age on July 31, 2017, at his home in Minneapolis.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years of marriage, Avis; sons, Craig Richmond and Martin Richmond (Dorothy); daughter, Tjia Richmond (Mike); and granddaughters, Daisy Richmond and Lily Richmond.
After graduating from North High in Minneapolis, Robert enlisted in the Navy at age 17. He fought in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1945 aboard the destroyer USS Perkins.
Robert was a principal in the firm of Piper-Richmond Architects in Rochester. Before forming his own firm, he worked in the office of Sovik, Mathre & Madson in Northfield, Minn. He designed the federal prison hospital in Rochester along with churches, commercial buildings and residences in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. At age 64, he left Rochester and moved into the house he designed in northeast Minneapolis, returning to the city he always felt was home.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Central Lutheran Church, 333 S. 12th St., Minneapolis.
