Ruby E. Gronseth -- Pine Island

A memorial service for Ruby E. Gronseth, 92, of Pine Island, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at St. Michaels Catholic Church, 451 5th Street SW, Pine Island, MN, with Fr. Randal Kasel officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. the day of the service at the church. A luncheon will follow the service as will the burial of her cremated remains at St. Margaret's Cemetery in Mantorville.

Ruby passed away peacefully on Aug. 27, at Pine Haven Nursing Home, Pine Island, surrounded by her family.

Ruby Evelyn Gronseth was born March 27, 1925, in Forest City, Iowa, to the late Selmer and Tilda (Wooge) Anderson. She grew up on the family farm in rural Forest City Iowa. The Anderson family moved to Grand Meadow in 1936. She was united in marriage to Lyman Gronseth, Sr. on Nov. 27, 1944, in Claremont.

Ruby was a homemaker for much of her married life. Ruby was the spiritual director, nurse, cook, teacher, warden, seamstress and gardener to her family. Ruby had careers at Hormel, Walters Conley and IBM Rochester, where she retired. Ruby was an active member of St. Michael's Church in Pine Island for many years. She was also an active member at the Pine Island Senior Citizens Center with the craft group, making many beautiful and unique handmade quilts for The Ronald McDonald House, Women's Shelter, Love Project, Children's Crisis Center and many more. Ruby also taught aerobics class every Friday for many years at the Senior Center and assisted in the malt wagon during a number of Cheese Festivals. Ruby enjoyed walking, playing cards, dancing, singing, crocheting, traveling, gardening and watching the Vikings. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with them.

She is survived by her children, Pamela Smith of Deer River, Minn., Patricia (Bob) Carney of Oconto Falls Wis., Lyman (Rachelle) Gronseth, Jr. and David Gronseth, both of Pine Island; daughter in-law, Jean Gronseth of Hudson Wis.; nine wonderful grandchildren, Lon, Heidi, Melissa, Tony, Sheryl, Jason, Peter, Sara and Tyler; 14 precious great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Wilford Anderson and Hubert (Nancy) Anderson; along with many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Preceding Ruby in death were her parents; husband, Lyman Sr.; son, Douglas; son in-law, David Smith; grandson, Johnathon Gronseth; sisters, Martha Belknap, Charlotte (Jennings) Nessa and brother, Sanford Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to the Pine Island Senior Citizens Center or the Pine Haven Nursing Home, both located in Pine Island.
