Ruth Louise Virnig - Northfield
KASSON — Ruth Louise Virnig, Dec. 10, 1931, to Sept. 1, 2010.
Ruth was born to Blanche (Hart) and William Colgan in Dover. Her father died in 1935, leaving a wife and seven children. She attended school in Dover until 1945. Ruth was the last child left at home and left school to take care of her ailing mother.
She married Gerald John Virnig on Aug. 28, 1952, and they made their home in Lanesboro. They lived on a farm, raising six children: three sons, Gerald William of Chatfield, Robert John of Zumbro Falls, and Peter Leo of Dodge Center; and three daughters, Marianne (Daniel) Champagne of Laporte, Susan Marie Virnig of Kasson and Sandra Kay (Wayne) Sanford of Dodge Center.
She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and crocheting.
After Gerald’s death in 1970 she moved to St. Charles, where she met Ronald Eggert. She moved to Wasioja and finally to Northfield, where Ruth and Ron lived until their deaths.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Blanche and William; along with three brothers, James, John and William; three sisters, Margaret, Blanche and C’Dell; and longtime companion Ronald Eggert.
She is survived by six children, 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and many extended family members.
Funeral service will be held in Kasson at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 10, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept 11, at 11 a.m. Graveside services will be held in the Wasioja Cemetery, with Pastor Marie officiating.
Pall bearer will be Josh Olson.
