Sigrid G. Chambers — Rochester

Sigrid G. Chambers, 78, died on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, in Rochester, after a long struggle with diabetes and associated illnesses.

She was born in Winger on Feb. 14, 1935, to Mikkel and Helma (Skiple) Homme, and graduated from McIntosh High School in McIntosh in 1953. After graduation, Sigrid moved to Minneapolis with her best friend Camilla (Aasen) Pearsall and graduated from a medical technician school. She worked for a short time as a lab technician at International Mills and as a medical technician at Maternity Hospital in Minneapolis. On March 25, 1956, she wed Dr. Dale Chambers. They made their home in Rochester, where they raised their six children.

Sigrid was a loving and devoted wife and mother who had a strong dedication to her children and grandchildren. She had a passion for family and friends and was instrumental in maintaining strong bonds between them. Sigrid was known for having open arms and a generous heart for all those who needed her, which included family, friends and many pets. She enjoyed homemaking, gardening, arts and crafts, decorating, and was known for her talented cooking. She was active in church youth activities, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTA and various community events.

Sigrid is survived by her husband, Dale, of 57 years; five children, Craig (Sharon) Chambers of Rochester, Mark Chambers of Rochester, Kristi (Bill) Mettler of Spring Valley, Mary (Steve) Chambers-Woslager of Rochester, Sara (J.J.) Chambers-Miller of Rochester; 15 grandchildren, Mikkel Chambers, Rachel Chambers, and Stephanie (Daniel)Chambers-Baltz of St. Paul, Thomas, Andrea, Susan, Paul, Claire and James Mettler of Spring Valley, Nicholas (Emily) Woslager, Emily (Cameron) Clary of Little Rock Air Force Base, Marie, Dale Woslager of Rochester, Danika, Maxwell Miller of Rochester; and one brother, Helmer (Verlys) Homme of Winger.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Chambers; her parents, Mikkel and Helma Homme; and stepfather, Oscar Snustad.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 810 Third Ave., S.E. in Rochester, with the Rev. Jason Burggraff officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
