Susan Marie Schuett -- Rochester
Susan Schuett passed away in the comfort of her home Feb. 10, 2017, after losing her long and courageous battle to pancreatic cancer.
Susan Marie Fieck was born Dec. 6, 1956, in Rochester to Jack and Dorothy Fieck, number four of five. She grew up in southeast Rochester, graduated from Mayo High School in 1975, and went on to get her Medical Secretary Diploma from Rochester Area Vocational School in 1976.
Sue worked briefly at the Mayo Clinic as a medical secretary but was soon lured to a more challenging position at the Olmsted Medical Center. Her new position gave her a broader range of office management experiences that would help her launch into a career in informational technology. As Sue continued to grow with the organization and continued to accept more responsibilities, she would eventually earn a degree in informational technology from Carlton College and eventually became the CIO at Olmsted Medical Center. After 36 years of work at the organization she "loved," Sue's illness forced her into an early retirement.
Over the years, Sue enjoyed the companionship of her many pets; her golden retriever, Mickey, was her current buddy. Another form of relaxation that Sue enjoyed was through her creative work on one of her many craft projects, and she always seemed to have a few different projects going at the same time. Sue would always make time for her favorite pastime/antique-collecting. While her house was filled with "treasures" she had collected, Sue would always get excited over any "unexpected find" she could add to one of her collections. Sue also loved gardening and supervising home remodel projects.
Sue is survived by her husband, Rick, with whom she had just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary, and her buddy, Mickey. Also surviving is Sue's "friend/sister," Lori (Fred) Wright, of Rochester; brothers, Steve Fieck, of Beverly Hills, Fla., and Terry (Doraine) Fieck, of Everett, Wash. Sue's parents, Jack and Dorothy Fieck, and her sister, Lynda Sawyer, preceded her in death.
The family wishes all memorials to the OMC Regional Foundation.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 16, in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at noon, with the Rev. Luke Nelson, officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Center Grove Cemetery in Douglas.
