Sylvia Olive (Nickelson) Maringer — Wabasha

Sylvia Olive (Nickelson) Maringer, 94, of Wabasha, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home in Wabasha.

She was born Sept. 23, 1919, at Beaver, to Lawrence (Babe) and Pearl (Harmon) Nickelson.Sylvia attended grade school in Northville, S.D., Minneiska and the Glendale School in the Whitewater Valley. She graduated from Winona Senior High in 1938. She married Lawrence Knutson in 1940, and they later divorced. Sylvia then married Cornelius "Coonie" Maringer, Oct. 15, 1948. They farmed all their married life on Hoosier Ridge. Coonie died April 14, 2001.

Sylvia enjoyed country music, playing cards, crossword puzzles, embroidering and loved being mother to her five children.

She is survived by her children, Gerald "Jerry" Knutson (Joanie Przytarski, deceased), of Winona, Patrica "Pat" Maringer, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Ronald "Pete" (Brenda) Maringer, on the home farm in Weaver, Nancy (LeRoy) Zabel, of Kellogg, and Robert "Bob" Maringer (Mary Moravec), of Minnesota City; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; niece, Debbie (Joe) and son, Bart of San Diego, Calif.; as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Maxine Evers, and brother-in-law, Ervin Evers.

Memorial service will be Wednesday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at the Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview, with Mr. Howard Ponder officiating. Burial is at the Hillside Cemetery in Minneiska.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 8, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Schad & Zabel Funeral Home, and one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
