Thomas E. Lloyd — Gleason, Wis.

Thomas E. Lloyd, 97, of Gleason, Wis., passed away on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill, Wis., under Ministry Hospice care.

He was born May 25, 1918, in Martinsburg, W.V., to the late Thomas and Delia (Oliver) Lloyd. He was married to Laura Kaskavitch on May 24, 1943; she survives.

Thomas graduated from high school and entered in the U.S. Navy in 1937. He first served aboard the USS Lexington and later the USS Yorktown, where he participated in the Battle of Midway in June 1942. He survived the torpedo and air attack of the Yorktown, which was sunk by the enemy. Thomas made a career in the Navy from 1937 to 1959. He played the trumpet and herald trumpet in the Navy Band, where he had the opportunity to play for countless events at the White House, Capitol and Arlington National Cemetery. He also played in numerous cross country concert tours with the band.

Thomas and Laura lived in the Wausau/Mosinee area, where he was manager of Brokaw Credit Union until his full retirement. They enjoyed extensive travel with their family visiting all 50 states. Tom spent many winters in Florida with Laura and friends. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and going to the casinos.

Survivors include his wife of over 70 years, Laura Lloyd, of Merrill, Wis.; a son, Thomas W. (Sherri) Lloyd, of Centralia, Wash.; a daughter, Patricia (John) Taylor, of Gleason, Wis.; and three sisters-in-Law, Joyce Balge, of Mosinee, Charlene (Harold) Stillman, of Wausau, and Jacqueline (Jim) Krieg, of Mosinee. Tom is further survived by a grandson, David (Jena) Taylor, of Wasilla, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy and Ruth; and a grandson, Christopher Taylor.

A private Celebration of Life for Thomas Lloyd will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery.
