Tom Morris

Tom Morris passed away April 17th, after a brief but heroic fight with an aggressive cancer at Mayo Clinic. Rochester Methodist Hospital Campus. Tom was born September 28, 1946, to Dale and Betty (Jenkins) Morris. He grew up in Rochester and attended grades 1-8 at the one room school that was near where Century High School is today. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1964.  He received his draft notice for the Vietnam War October 1, 1965. He reported for duty mid November at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. After basic training, he was assigned to Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. He married his sweetheart, Mary Ann Saugen, August 6, 1966. When Tom was honorably discharged in 1967, they returned to Rochester. In 1971, he applied for and was accepted as a firefighter in Rochester. He was proud of his profession, and the life long friendships with his fellow firefighters. He retired in 1996, and pursued his passions of cars, motorcycles and antiques. He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Mary. His daughter Tammy Matzke (Cory) his son Nick (Maria) Morris, his 6 grandchildren whom he adored more than words can express, his sisters Jane (Larry) Robertson, Nancy Judd, Rose (Denny Schendel, numerous nieces and nephews. Tom had determined a long time ago to donate his body to Mayo Clinic for Education and Research. There will not be a funeral, but in the future there will be a celebration of life.
