Victor L. Blastervold — Cannon Falls
Victor Louverne Blastervold, 94, of Cannon Falls, passed peacefully Thursday evening, Jan. 17, 2013, at Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Victor was born March 16, 1918, in Deerfield Township, Steele County, the son of Peter and Julia (Woldmoe) Blastervold. After his mother passed away when he was nine months old, he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Ole and Anna Blastervold of Waseca, until the age of eight. Upon the death of his aunt he was raised by Selmer and Karen Peterson of Wanamingo. He was baptized at the Meraker Lutheran Church in Deerfield Township, and was confirmed at the Wanamingo Lutheran Church. He worked for many farmers in Leon Township until his marriage to Marion Olson at her family home in Leon Township on June 9, 1943. He and Marion raised four children and farmed in Leon Township for 33 years until her death in 1976.
He was an active member of the Spring Garden Lutheran Church all of his married life.He served on the Leon Township Board as treasurer. He was an active member of the local Farmers Union and served on the Board of the Farmers Coop Elevator in Cannon Falls.
He and his brother, Raymond, owned a semi-truck in the early 1950's hauling eggs to California, and vegetables to Minnesota. Many summers he hauled peas to the Faribault Canning Company. After he retired from farming he worked for the Minnesota Transportation Dept., Zumbrota Livestock Auction Market, and Cemstone Ready-Mix Co. until his retirement in 1998 at age 80.
He married Norma (Shoemaker) Miller at the Zumbro Falls Lutheran Church on Dec. 29, 1979. They resided in Zumbrota their entire married life of 28 years. He and Norma traveled for a month in winter to visit one daughter in Puebla, Mexico, and two daughters in Arroyo Grande, Calif. He continued assisting his son and family in farming in Leon Township until moving to Angels Care Center.
He was an avid newspaper reader, enjoyed playing cards and socializing with friends, and most of all, he was devoted to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his foster parents; wife, Marion; wife, Norma; brothers, Raymond and Guy; sister, Marie Tulio; step-sister, Luella Blastervold; and step-brother, Donald Blastervold.
He is survived by his children, Frances Blastervold-Olson (Clayton), of Puebla, Mexico, Charles (Mary) Blastervold, of Cannon Falls, Phyllis (Stephen) Dorsi and Joanne (Michael) Ulin, both of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; seven grandchildren, David (Ann) Blastervold, Michelle (John) Kent, Deborah (Chad) Revoir, Alexa (Jose Luis) Petrilli, Nicole Guzman, Michael (Elizabeth) Dorsi, and Sean Ulin; 11 great-grandchildren, Jacalyn, Ashlee and Samuel Blastervold, Michael Dahl, Victoria and Leah Kent, Taylor, Brielle, and Lauren Revoir, Ian and Adine Petrilli; one great-great-grandson, Brayden Dahl; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by step-children and their families, Yvonne (Dick) Myran, Janice Rude, and Jim Miller, all of Zumbrota.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. at Spring Garden Lutheran Church, with Pastors Nick and Cindy Fisher-Broin officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation Wednesday at church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
