Vincent H. Griggs - Kasson
KASSON — A Memorial Mass for Vincent H. Griggs will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2010, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester, with the Rev. LaVern E. Trocinski officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rights by the American Legion Post 107.
Mr. Griggs, 84, of Kasson, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Prairie Meadows Assisted Living in Kasson.
He was born July 18, 1925, in Graettinger, Iowa, to Herbert Eli Griggs and Ruth Hildred Franson.
He served in the United States Army from Nov. 1, 1944, to May 2, 1946.
Vincent married Marilyn Rose Miller on July 21, 1947, in Ruthven, Iowa.
He was a charter member of Resurrection Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion for many years. Vincent enjoyed Golden Gloves Boxing as a young man and watched boxing matches on television through the years. Mr. and Mrs. Griggs traveled throughout North America in their motorhome, visiting every state except Hawaii.
Vincent is survived by his wife; sons, James "Jay" (Margaret Ontl) Griggs of Hudson, Wis., and David (Linda) Griggs of Rochester; one sister, Lavon Fieseler of Eyota; grandchildren, Anthony "Tony" (Tracy) Griggs of Duluth, Minn., Malyssa (Elliot) Woodward of Minneapolis, and Jayson (Melissa) Griggs of Ellsworth, Wis.; and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas Griggs; and sister, Lora Staver.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, and one half-hour prior to the service at the church Monday.
Memorials are preferred to Southeastern Minnesota Honor Flight for Veterans or Resurrection Catholic Church.
