Viola B. 'Vi' Johanns - Rochester
ROCHESTER — The funeral Mass for Viola "Vi" B. Johanns will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Resurrection Catholic Church, with the Rev. Donald P. Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Johanns, 93, of Rochester, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester.
Viola Blanche Harwick was born February 1, 1917, in Winsted, Minnesota. She married Laurence Johanns on August 10, 1946, in Rapid City, South Dakota. Mr. Johanns died September 19, 1983. Viola lived in Rochester since 1935, after moving from Kasson.
Viola retired from the Mayo Clinic in 1978 after working 34 years as a desk supervisor. Mr. Johanns was a sales representative for the Schmidt Brewery Company. Viola was very active in her church, Sr. Raphael's Guild, Young at Heart Singers, and the Senior Center, and volunteered at Resurrection Catholic Church and Mayo Clinic.
She is survived by her step-children, Laurence B. Johanns of Durham, North Carolina, Rodney C. (Alma) Johanns of Rochester and Gerald V. Johanns of Clovis, California; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, George and Louisa Harwick; her husband, Laurence Johanns; 4 sisters, 4 brothers; and 2 daughters-in-law, Caroline Johanns and Suzanne Johanns.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Macken Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to the service at the church Thursday.
