Alcoholics affect families and community

April marks Alcohol Awareness Month, a nationwide campaign intended to raise awareness of the health and social problems that excessive alcohol consumption can cause for individuals, their families, and their communities.

This is a good time to reflect on the fact that alcoholics go home. They affect all of the members of their families and their community.

As a child of an alcoholic, I understand the pain that is inflicted on the family. With 20 percent of our 12-and-older population binge drinking at least once per month, there are a lots of intoxicated people going home.

We, as a premier medical community, need to get together to help treat this disease with vigor. I have been working on this problem for some time and I invite you to join together to work at helping alcoholics get into recovery.
