OK, the Ann Taylor Loft store in Rochester's Apache Mall has long been the subject of local buzz that said the store would be closing.
Corporate did not have anything to say, so monitoring this boiled down to watching the store. I have popped by the mall at 9 a.m. many times and checked the windows for signs as the mall walkers circled me suspiciously.
The word is – haven't seen it myself – a sign is up that say the store's last will be Dec. 16.
That would match what the company stated in its third quarter report issued today:
As part of its strategic restructuring program, the Company expects to close approximately 60 stores in fiscal 2008, with 33 Ann Taylor stores planned for closure and 27 LOFT stores planned for closure.
I remember when the store first opened in Rochester back in 2005. It was kind of big deal within a certain demographic.
