Are 98 percent of scientists wrong about global warming?

A letter to the editor in the Feb. 11 edition from a Zumbrota resident got me thinking.

Imagine a friend of yours is experiencing serious physical symptoms. He consults 100 reputable physicians and is told by 98 of them that he needs a particular treatment. Instead, he decides to follow the advice of the other two doctors and does nothing.

What would you do?

Our planet is the patient, and many of us are ignoring the science. We want it to be a hoax, as life would just be easier. Yet, 98 percent of climate scientists — emphasize scientists— are convinced that we need to act and act quickly to turn things around. Have we seen so much science fiction that we can't recognize science reality?

One cold day or cold week in January is not a sign that the 25 percent of Americans who still question climate change are right and 98 percent of scientists are wrong. Your sick friend may have some good days, too, but I think you'd still want him to take his medicine. We all want him to, because we are all in this together.
