Vote "Yes" on the Nov. 8 Byron school district operating levy referendum.
The Byron school district has consistently provided an outstanding education to our students. The U.S, Department of Education awarded Byron High School its Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence, the only high school in Minnesota awarded this honor. Intel¹s School of Distinction program named Byron High School the top high school in the nation for our exceptional math program. Student scores on standardized tests continue to rise even though they are already at or near the top in southeastern Minnesota.
Yet Byron has one of the lowest operating levies in the state. The board has made tough decisions and already cut $1 million from the operating budget. What goes now is quality, both in academics and in the overall experience that our students receive.
Class sizes will increase, staff will have fewer development opportunities, and student fees will continue to increase. Without the support of our community — not just in spirit but with our wallets — the undeniably first rate schools that Byron is so proud of simply can't be maintained. I ask every citizen of Byron to recognize what an incredible school district we have and to support it by voting "Yes" on Nov. 8.
