Here's the news from Catering By Design that I promised earlier :

Rochester’s Catering By Design crew is moving to a new home, opening up for lunch …and is starting to serve alcohol.

The catering operation owned by Jeff and Kathy Windt is moving to 898 Seventh St. N.W. (the old Techline Furniture spot), right next to Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe. The hope is to make the move from the Labor Temple Building on Fourth Street Southeast by March.

"I really think the customers there will be a good mix for us," says Jeff Windt. Besides working catering gigs out of the larger kitchen, he also will be opening a restaurant with seating for about 40.

Expect mainly lunch service with space being available for private events in the evenings and weekends.

Opening the restaurant also means Catering By Design qualifies for a liquor license. The plan is to offer alcohol at catered events as well as at the restaurant.

Will the restaurant’s name be different than the catering business?

"We’re not sure. We’re in kind of a dilemma about the name," Windt says. "We’re still primarily caterers."

Catering By Design has four full-time staffers and about 25 on-call part-timers.
