We are pleased to see the Rochester City Council has plans to tighten financial reporting requirements for nonprofit organizations that seek money from the city. This is an important step toward more responsible city spending. It only makes sense for those receiving our tax dollars to be accountable for where that money is being spent and what results are achieved with this money.
Budgets for these organizations should be examined and carefully scrutinized considering the benefits actually achieved, not just good intentions. Increases in budgets should always be questioned to be sure the additional funding will generate worthwhile results.
We are glad to see some fiscal responsibility being applied here and look forward to more good financial management of the city budget by our City Council.
