Rochester is being tested. Do you want to be governed — make that controlled— by the recently formed DMCC? Note it is now DMCC and not just DMC. The final C means corporation.
Most folks were asleep when this corporation was started late at the end of a Monday city council meeting. In fact, it was early Tuesday morning before it was voted into existence.
I was there but getting very sleepy. I was talking very slowly and mostly asking about "What is a corporation?" The city attorney told me a corporation exists only on paper.
A number of others were asking pertinent questions also. Barry Skolnick, a local activist, was concerned, as was a woman representing the Mayo Clinic, who said she felt she and her department were not being heard. In her opinion, the whole Destination Medical Center plan needed more time and more discussion.
DVDs of the meeting are available from the Rochester city clerk's office for $3. You folks might want to watch that meeting — while awake, of course.
