Don't build new pipelines for tar sand oils

A Sierra Club report just released raises worries about transporting tar sands oils to the Midwest. This kind of oil is more corrosive, contains more harmful chemicals than conventional crude. It also

creates more sulfur and chloride salts to corrode pipelines.

Those who live along the pipeline routes need to be protected, yet guidelines have not been set, despite the fact that this oil has more potential for leaks and ruptures.

Before it is agreed to transport this oil across the Midwest we need to be sure our water supplies and farmlands are not placed at risk. No new tar lines should be built until this essential information is available, and we are sure there is no risk of contamination and spills.
