As a legislator, Tom Emmer helped to author a bill that would help stop voter fraud. This bill was proposed in 2005.
The bill would require most voters to provide proof of citizenship and to provide picture identification when voting.
Legislators Emmer, Brod, Erickson, Bradley, Demmer, Wardlow and Soderstrom, all Republicans, worked on this bill to protect our vote.
The bill (H.R. 1443) passed a House committee and went to the Senate Committee on Elections, where it died. The Senate committee was controlled by the DFL. Only three Democrats voted for the bill.
We need voter protection by voter identification in Minnesota.
