Expanded International Hotel unveiled
Would you like to see what a $3,000 a night hotel room looks like?
How about checking out what kind of TV the Iraqi president watches between appointments at Mayo Clinic?
The International and The Kahler Grand are offering guided tours of the luxury suites from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. todayWednesday and Thursday. Group tours will start at the Lord Essex Tavern in the Kahler Grand Hotel lobby in downtown Rochester.
Food from International’s gourmet menu will be served at the free open house reception. To schedule an appointment for a personal tour, call 285-2743.
This open house is to unveil the latest high-end suites added to the hotel-within-a-hotel.
"We found a niche in the market that wasn’t being satisfied … the people that usually stay at a Ritz or a Four Seasons ," says Bruce Fairchild, regional director for Sunstone Hotel Properties. "Occupancy is good. It is doing well."
The Kahler Hotel began checking out that niche — high-income visitors coming to Rochester for the Mayo Clinic — in 1999. The hotel tested the waters by creating six suites followed by 13 suites two years later and then another six in 2007.
When the final construction work is finished, The International will offer 44 suites on the 10th and 11th floors of the Kahler.
